BEVERLY — A program in use in Beverly elementary schools has been named one of the most innovative programs in the country, according to the U.S. Department of Education. As a result, The Bay State Reading Institute, the organization that developed the literacy-based program, has won a $5 million grant to bring the strategy to 12 additional schools.

The education department announced the grant this week. Beverly will not receive any of the $5 million, said Marie Galinski, Beverly's school superintendent.
